We are voting members of the Veterans Council of Chatham County. Currently, the chapter has volunteers in the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR) who counsel Guard and Reserve members who are being mobilized or demobilized as to their rights and responsibilities concerning their civilian employment under the law. They also work with employers who have employees in the Guard and Reserve to build support and better relations. SAMOA awards three scholarships annually to deserving ROTC cadets from local universities to help defray the costs of their education. The chapter also supports “Honor Flight Savannah”, sending WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans to visit the memorial in Washington, DC.
Our efforts and support are not limited to these areas, and we constantly search for areas where we can be of assistance as well as address the interests of our membership. The chapter conducts monthly business/social lunch meetings on the third Friday of each month.
Meetings are held at Carey Hilliad's banquet room at 11111 Abercorn Street and offer opportunities to cover chapter business as well as fellowship among members and their spouses. Many of the chapter's meetings are devoted to special occasions or to honor members like our Christmas Dinner where we collect toys for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.
We publish monthly an informative and professional newsletter, the "Sentinel," which keeps chapter members abreast of developments in the chapter's activities and issues as well as highlighting items on the national scene. The newsletter also informs members of the most current legislative and personal affairs issues. Information concerning personal finances is provided by experts.
